Dear colleagues
Earth´s Day is today and there have been several activities to celebrate the event this last weekend. In my opinion, it is really important to raise student´s awareness of our planet´s situation and develop some activities using skills- critical thinking, problem solving, creative thinking – that will allow them to accept the responsibility they have to contribute to saving our precious resources. These activities can be transformed in local actions the students, the school and the community can get involved in.
In the blog http://mumimariatefl.blogspot. com/ you will find a link to worksheets, lesson plans and resources about this celebration but there are also tons of material for other topics. You can send e-cards to your friends and at the same time contribute to other environmental causes and there is a video with the song Heal the World but with slides that can motivate students to see how small actions can make a big change.
I hope you can find some of these ideas useful and as a sample of what you may find in the post I would love to share with you a poem from care2 cards.
Enjoy and celebrate Earth Day turning on the lights early or closing the tap when you are washing your teeth or even volunteering to help a friend with their English difficulties. Anything you do for others good willingly and without expecting a reward contributes to make our world a better place.
Remember that Earth Day is every day!!
